Latitude 33 – What a Delicious Neighborhood We Have!
One of the things we love most about Venice at Latitude 33 is its food. We have talked about The Tasting Kitchen and Gjelina, but we also have some old-school culinary stops that deserve some culinary props. Let's talk about Ado.
Ado Ristorante still rises to the top of our list, with delicious, inventive dishes and a perfect date-night atmosphere. In the midst of trendy Main Street, Ado occupies a vintage 1908 house, painted in a homey bright yellow. It looks like your grandmother’s house, though we’re willing to bet even your grandmother couldn’t cook this well.
Ado isn’t a sprawling, spacious restaurant; rather, it’s an intimate experience with only a handful of tables on the second floor and out on the balcony. With the windows open and candles providing most of the light in the room, nighttime at Ado is about as romantic as it gets.
ADO CarpaccioBut let’s not forget about the food… Oh, the food! This isn’t your Americanized Italian food, its down-home, authentic cuisine that may just change the way you think about pasta. The chef makes simple dishes like prosciutto and burrata or the carpaccio sing, and you’ll probably fight with your date about who gets to finish the last of the appetizer.
The entrees provide something for everyone, from meat-lovers to the pasta obsessed. Chef and co-owner Antonio Muré is known for his ability to balance savory and sweet on the palate, and nowhere is this clearer than the wild boar with raspberry sauce. Their specialty pasta dish is the red beet tagliolini with quail, which may not sound up your alley, but one bite turns beet-haters into lifelong believers. And never be afraid to try the nightly specials – when the kitchen feels like trying something new, that’s one journey you definitely want to take.
Given the small size of the restaurant and its well-earned reputation, make a reservation ahead of time. As soon as you walk in, you’ll notice that repeat diners frequently recognize one another and the waiters, greeting each other like long lost friends. And once you try the food, you may just become an Ado devotee yourself!
Ado is located just a bike ride away from Latitude 33 at 796 Main Street, Venice, CA 90291.
